With the Fourth of July approaching, Nike was planning to celebrate with a new sneaker. The special edition Air Max 1 Quick Strike featuring that most patriotic of symbols: an American flag. Nike has since Cancelled those plans.

The cancellation came after Colin Kaepernick, the social justice activist, privately criticized the Betsy Ross design to Nike, according to a person with knowledge of the interaction.

The Air Max 1 Quick Strike was designed featured an american flag: but not the 50 star flag, rather the 13-star model, a design associated with the Revolutionary War.
